Fairchild Republic

USA Est. 1965 1987

When Fairchild acquired Republic Aviation, they inherited Republic's DNA: build it tough, build it ugly if you have to, make sure it comes home. That philosophy peaked with the A-10 Thunderbolt II — the most effective close air support aircraft ever built, designed around a gun the size of a Volkswagen.

Heritage

Fairchild Republic carried forward Republic's tradition of building aircraft that prioritized survivability and firepower over aesthetics. The A-10 was their masterpiece: a flying gun designed to destroy Soviet tanks in Europe, built with titanium armor, redundant systems, and the philosophy that pretty doesn't matter when your job is keeping ground troops alive. The Air Force has tried to retire it for decades. They can't. It's too good at what it does.
