Stearman Aircraft

USA Est. 1926 1934 (acquired by Boeing, became Boeing Wichita Division)

Lloyd Stearman started his company in Wichita, Kansas and built the most famous trainer biplane in history. Boeing bought the company in 1934, but the name stuck. Nobody calls it a Boeing PT-17.

Heritage

The Stearman name outlived the company by nearly a century. Every bright yellow biplane at every airshow in America carries it. Boeing got the factory, but Stearman got the legend. Over 10,000 Kaydets trained the pilots who won World War II, and thousands more went on to build the crop-dusting industry from surplus parts and farmer ingenuity.
