USA Est. 1917 1994 (various mergers)
Vought built the F4U Corsair โ the bent-wing fighter that Marines flew from Henderson Field and carriers across the Pacific. Its distinctive inverted gull wing is one of the most recognizable silhouettes in aviation.
Heritage
The Corsair was initially rejected by the Navy for carrier operations, so the Marines took it. They made it legendary. Pappy Boyington's Black Sheep flew Corsairs. The aircraft served in three wars.
